Downey, CA -- Assemblymember Blanca Pacheco (D-Downey) will distribute free backpacks and school supplies to students in Downey on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 3-5 p.m. at Golden Park, 8840 Golden St..
The event, in partnership with Downey GOOD and Kaiser Permanente Southern California, seeks to help prepare students for the upcoming academic year. Backpacks and supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while they last. Students must be present to receive a backpack.
In addition to the backpack giveaway, the event will feature complimentary hot dogs, chips, and water, promising a fun and family-friendly occasion.
Assemblymember Pacheco is proud to be a partner with Downey GOOD (Gangs Out of Downey) and Kaiser and looks forward to meeting students and giving them backpacks. Downey GOOD is a nonprofit organization focused on educating the public about gangs and offering alternatives and interventions to avoid gang involvement.
"This backpack giveaway is about more than just providing supplies – it's about giving our children the confidence and support they need to thrive in the new school year,” said Assemblymember Pacheco. “I am thrilled to be a part of this community effort and to see the smiles on our students' faces as they receive their new backpacks.”
