Gipson Bill Creates Statewide Framework for Community Schools

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

(Sacramento) – Assemblymember Mike Gipson (D-Carson) rallied at the State Capitol with supporters of his legislation (AB 842) that would establish a statewide framework for community schools in California.

A community school is a school that partners with other community resources and focuses on academics, health, social services and community engagement, which leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. “Community schools emphasize real-world learning and community problem-solving,” says Assemblymember Gipson. “The schools become centers of the community and provide a role for everyone to participate in the academic achievement and social health of students and families within the community.” Here’s more from Assemblymember Gipson’s community schools rally in this Assembly Access video
