World AIDS Day
CARSON, Calif --- “This year we acknowledge the 29th Anniversary of World AIDS Day.
As chair of the California Assembly Select Committee on Infectious Diseases in High Risk Disadvantaged Communities, I can tell you that although progress has been made, AIDs and HIV continue to decimate people of color and those who live in poor and underserved communities here and throughout the world.
Advances in science and technology continue to offer cutting-edge treatments but the fact is that these advances trickle down slowly to the masses, if at all.
Our work, focus and determination must continue. Local education and testing (“Know Your Status”) is a good way to start and PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for people at very high risk.
We can eradicate AIDS and HIV. Talk to your family, friends and clergy. It starts with you, here and now, on this World AIDs Day.”
Assemblymember Gipson represents the 64th Assembly District which includes Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South L.A., Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook and Wilmington.
