First Round of Transportation Projects Announced in 64th Assembly District
Carson, Calif --- Caltrans recently announced the first listing of local transportation projects in accordance with Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB1), in the 64th Assembly District totaling $84.5 million in road and highway repair, street pavement, and infrastructure upkeep.
“Seven months after we passed SB1 we are already seeing the benefits. We said this bill would provide relief to cities, and we are seeing it firsthand “said Asm. Gipson. “By having a consistent revenue stream for transportation projects in California, we are maintaining and creating jobs, keeping our goods economy moving, and investing in our communities.”
SB1 will generate more than $54 billion over the next decade for transportation, split evenly between state and local agencies. The new funding effectively doubles transportation dollars for local cities and counties, and doubles the maintenance dollars for state highways. SB1 monies can be used by local agencies for basic road maintenance, rehabilitation and critical safety projects on local streets and roads.
“I am proud that several communities in my district have already taken advantage by submitting their lists of projects they are proposing to be used with SB1 resources” said Asm. Gipson. “This will be something I will continue to advocate for and make sure every community in my district puts in their request.”
