Asm. Mike GipsonThe holidays are finally here! As we get ready for another festive season, I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for allowing me to represent Carson, Compton, Gardena, Harbor Gateway, Lynwood, North Long Beach, Rancho Dominguez, South Los Angeles, Torrance, Watts/Willowbrook and Wilmington for another term! It has truly been a great honor to serve the great people of this 64th District and I am not done working hard to ensure that it is taken care of!

This season, I want to remind everyone to stay safe, be kind, and have fun! Do not take these moments for granted. Through all the decorations and gift giving, let us not forget the true meaning of the season...to love and take care of one another and be accepting of each other, despite our differences.

Down in the 64th:

Wishing you a Happy Holiday and joyful New Year,

Sincerely,

Dear Family,

Asm. Mike Gipson

We have had a lot of exciting events take place in the 64th district and I am elated to share some of our triumphs with you! I am happy to announce that the Governor signed over 20 of my bills including:

  • AB 1577, The Safe Drinking Water Act requiring the state to take over the Sativa Water Board and begin the process of providing residents who have been living with brown water coming out of their faucets, with the clean and clear water they deserve.
  • AB 2448, Internet for Disadvantaged Youth providing youth in foster care or in local juvenile detention centers access to the internet in order to continue their education and contact with supportive adults.
  • And, AB 2247, Foster Youth Placement Stability, which establishes a clear, structured transition process when foster youth move from one placement to another.
  • For a complete list of my bills, please visit my website.

This holiday season, my office would like to reflect on how thankful we are for the constituents and friends of the 64th district. Your continued support is valued and celebrated throughout the year.

In the spirit of gratitude, we would like to encourage you to give back to your community on November 24th, by supporting local businesses. “Small Business Saturday” is an opportunity to invest in your own community and ensure that our district continues to thrive.

I am honored to serve you! Many blessings to you and your family on this Thanksgiving holiday.

Warmly,

A message from Mike - Capitol Recap!

Asm. Mike Gipson

Dear Family,

August was a busy month as we finished the Assembly session in Sacramento. I am excited that THREE of my top priority bills are currently waiting to be signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown.

AB 1577 - seeks to improve water quality in the Los Angeles County Sativa Water District by appointing an administrator to stabilize operations, and help prepare for consolidation with a larger water company.

AB 2448 - ensures that youth in foster care and local juvenile detention facilities have access to computers and internet for education purposes, and contact with supportive adults.

AB 2247- establishes a clear structure when foster youth transition from one placement to another, including; advanced notice to the youth when they are being asked to leave, and a placement preservation plan to resolve outstanding problems before placement change is made.

I invite you to visit www.a64.asmdc.org for more information, and to keep up with exciting events and important news.

March 2016 Message

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

Dear Friend,

March appears to be coming in like a lamb. We missed El Nino but our preparation efforts won't be wasted on La Nina.

During this month we honor Women's History and the many contributions that women have made in countless areas – from the classroom to the board room; from the tennis courts to the Supreme Court; and from the halls of Congress to outer space.

In Sacramento:

  •  I am proud of my legislative package this year. Some highlights include:
    • AB 2388 will help more California families afford mortgages.
    • AB 1691 will address public health and the environment by reducing air pollution.
    • AB 2640 will help stop the spread of HIV by providing much-needed information to patients about preventative measures and medications.
  • The Statewide Traffic Ticket Amnesty Program expires March 2017.  If you or someone you know has any traffic related tickets, you may be eligible for a 50% to 80% reduction. Click here for more information.
  • Tax time is upon us and the deadline is not far away.  Please make sure you inquire about qualifying for the new State Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income taxpayers.
